Vacation on Four Paws
Would you like to spend the best time of the year with your four-legged friends? Then you’ve come to the right place. And to make sure your vacation is a complete success, we’ve put together some helpful tips and practical advice here.
Montana House
Dogs are very welcome here. You can find a list of all vacation rentals that allow dogs on our website under the “Vacation Rentals” menu.
Dogs must be kept on a leash at Montana Haus and Montana Garten.
Dog Rules in Oberstdorf
Leash Requirements: Even though there is no general leash requirement, you should keep your dog on a leash, especially in wildlife protection areas, on pastures on the outskirts of towns, and near alpine pastures and huts.
Livestock Pastures: When crossing a livestock pasture, you should always put your dog on a leash and have it walk close by your side; pass as far away from the cows as possible. However, if the cows do attack, be sure to let your dog off the leash immediately! Your dog can run away to safety, and you’ll be out of the danger zone!
Special notes: As a general rule, you must pick up your dog’s waste and dispose of it in the numerous dog waste bins. After all, the alpine meadows are our cows’ feeding grounds, not a dog toilet. There’s an important reason for this: dog waste contains many dangerous germs that can cause life-threatening diseases in livestock.
Riding the Mountain Railway with Your Dog
- A one-day pass costs €8.00 and is valid for 7 days
- Dogs must be kept on a leash without exception in the Two-Country Region
- Muzzles are required on the Nebelhorn, Fellhorn, and Walmendingerhorn cable cars
- Muzzles are not required on the Söllereck, Kanzelwand, Ifen, and Heuberg cable cars
- If you do not have your own muzzle for your dog,
you can purchase one at the cable car ticket office. (small: €5; large: €10)
Swimming with Your Dog
- At Freibergsee outside the swimming area - you can walk down to the lakeshore and let your dog swim
- Dogs are also welcome at Christlessee you just have to like the water temperature
- Vorsee Bisseroy near Rottachsee in Oy-Mittelberg/Petersthal
- Niedersonthofener See is located in the municipality of Waltenhofen. It lies between Immenstadt and Kempten. (Gerats 24, 87448 Waltenhofen/Memhölz)
Parking: You can park your car right at the swimming area. - Sonthofener See, a swimming lake in Ofterschwang
offer a refreshing dip for both people and dogs in the surrounding area.

Local Transit
Dogs ride for free. There is no requirement to wear a muzzle. The exception to this is Line 1 and the branch lines in the Kleinwalsertal, where muzzles are required.
However, on all lines, the driver may require a muzzle to be worn at any time.
We therefore recommend that you bring a muzzle with you.
